The Story#
A long, long time ago, there were ten suns in the sky!
They were the ten children of the Heavenly Emperor. Each day, one sun would come out to bring light and warmth to the earth.
But one day, the ten suns felt very bored.
“Let’s all come out and play together!” one sun said.
“Okay! Okay!” the other suns agreed.
So, all ten suns ran into the sky together!
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!”
The earth became burning hot. Crops withered, rivers dried up, and people were so hot they had to hide in caves.
There was a hero named Hou Yi. He was a master archer—his arrows always hit the target.
Hou Yi saw how much everyone was suffering and decided to shoot down the extra suns.
He climbed up a high mountain, drew his magic bow, and put a magic arrow in place.
“Whoosh!”
The first sun was hit!
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!”
Hou Yi shot arrow after arrow, bringing down nine suns.
The last sun trembled with fear: “Don’t shoot me! Don’t shoot me! I’ll be good and come out properly every day!”
Hou Yi put away his bow and arrows, leaving the last sun in the sky.
From then on, there was only one sun in the sky. The earth wasn’t so hot anymore, and people lived good lives again.
What the Story Teaches Us#
Hou Yi bravely stood up to help everyone. He teaches us that when others are in trouble, we should bravely lend a helping hand.
