The Story
#

After Hou Yi shot down nine suns, he became a great hero. He married a beautiful wife named Chang’e.

One day, Hou Yi received a magic pill. A god told him: “If you eat this pill, you can fly up to heaven and become a god.”

Hou Yi couldn’t bear to leave Chang’e, so he gave the pill to her to keep safe.

“Keep it well. Let’s live a happy life together,” Hou Yi said.

But there was a bad man named Peng Meng who wanted to steal the pill.

On the fifteenth day of the eighth month, Hou Yi went out hunting. Peng Meng took the chance to come and steal the pill!

Chang’e was desperate: “I can’t let him take it!”

In her panic, she swallowed the pill.

“Whoosh!”

Chang’e’s body became light as a feather, and she slowly floated up into the sky!

“Hou Yi! Hou Yi!” Chang’e cried, but she was already flying up to heaven.

She flew and flew, finally landing on the moon. On the moon, there was a little white rabbit and a sweet osmanthus tree.

When Hou Yi came home, he found Chang’e gone and was heartbroken. He looked up at the moon and saw a shadow inside—it was Chang’e!

From then on, Hou Yi looked at the moon every night, missing Chang’e.

Little friends, on the Mid-Autumn Festival, we eat mooncakes and look at the moon to remember Chang’e!
