The Story#
A long, long time ago, a white snake practiced for a thousand years and became a beautiful lady called the White Snake Lady.
She had a good sister too, Xiaoqing, who was a green snake transformed into a young woman.
One day, the White Snake Lady and Xiaoqing were walking by West Lake when suddenly it started raining heavily.
“Whoosh! Whoosh!”
A scholar named Xu Xian lent them his umbrella.
The White Snake Lady fell in love with the kind Xu Xian. They got married and opened a medicine shop, helping many sick people.
But a monk named Fahai said the White Snake Lady was a snake spirit and wanted to separate them.
Fahai tricked Xu Xian to Jinshan Temple and wouldn’t let him go home.
The White Snake Lady was desperate. She and Xiaoqing led the water spirits to flood Jinshan Temple, trying to save Xu Xian.
But the White Snake Lady was pregnant and not strong enough. She failed.
Later, the White Snake Lady gave birth to her baby. Fahai took advantage of her weakness, trapped her with a golden bowl, and pressed her under Leifeng Pagoda.
Xiaoqing escaped, vowing to practice her magic and come back to save her sister.
Eighteen years later, Xiaoqing succeeded in her practice. She defeated Fahai, toppled Leifeng Pagoda, and saved the White Snake Lady.
The White Snake Lady and Xu Xian were finally reunited, and the family lived happily together.
Little friends, there really is a Leifeng Pagoda by West Lake in Hangzhou!
