The Story#
A long, long time ago, there was a girl named Zhu Yingtai who really wanted to study.
But in those days, girls couldn’t go to school.
Zhu Yingtai thought of a way: she dressed as a boy, pretending to be a young man, and went to school.
At school, Zhu Yingtai met a classmate named Liang Shanbo.
They studied together, played together, and became best friends.
Three years later, Zhu Yingtai had to go home. Liang Shanbo walked with her for eighteen miles.
Zhu Yingtai said: “Brother Liang, I have a younger sister who looks exactly like me. Would you like to marry her?”
Liang Shanbo happily agreed.
Later, when Liang Shanbo went to Zhu Yingtai’s house to propose, he discovered the “younger sister” was Zhu Yingtai herself!
Liang Shanbo was overjoyed. But Zhu Yingtai’s father had already promised her to someone else.
Liang Shanbo was so heartbroken he fell ill and died.
On Zhu Yingtai’s wedding day, her bridal sedan chair passed by Liang Shanbo’s grave.
Zhu Yingtai jumped out of the sedan chair and cried loudly at the grave.
Suddenly—
“Rumble!”
The grave cracked open, and Zhu Yingtai jumped inside.
The grave closed again.
After a while, two beautiful butterflies flew out of the grave.
They danced among the flowers, together forever.
Little friends, this is the story of “transforming into butterflies.” Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai finally got to be together.
What the Story Teaches Us#
Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai’s friendship turned into love. They would rather become butterflies than be apart. This story teaches us that true feelings are precious, and we should bravely pursue our own happiness.
