The Story#
A long, long time ago, in Greek mythology, there was a goddess of wisdom named Athena.
Athena was born from Zeus’s head. When she was born, she was already wearing armor and holding a spear, looking very impressive.
Athena was very clever. She taught people many skills: farming, weaving, making pottery…
There was a city where people wanted to invite a god to protect them.
Both Athena and the sea god Poseidon wanted to go.
Poseidon struck the ground with his trident and created a warhorse.
Athena touched the ground with her spear and created an olive tree.
“The warhorse can be used for battle, but the olive tree bears fruit to eat, and oil can be pressed from it,” Athena said.
The people thought the olive tree was more useful, so they chose Athena.
This city was called “Athens,” and it became the most famous city in Greece.
Athena also protected the hero Odysseus, helping him overcome many difficulties.
Little friends, Athena teaches us: wisdom is more important than strength!
