The Story
#

A long, long time ago, in Greek mythology, there was a musician named Orpheus.

Orpheus played the lyre so beautifully that even stones and trees were moved by his music.

He had a beautiful wife named Eurydice, and they loved each other very much.

One day, Eurydice was accidentally bitten by a snake and died.

Orpheus was heartbroken. He decided to go to the underworld to bring his wife back.

He played his lyre and entered the underworld.

The king and queen of the underworld were moved by his music and agreed to let Eurydice go with him.

But there was one condition: “Before you walk out of the underworld, you must not look back at your wife.”

“I promise!” Orpheus said.

Orpheus led his wife back, holding back from looking the whole way.

Almost at the exit, Orpheus missed his wife so much that he couldn’t help looking back—

“No!” Eurydice was pulled back into the underworld.

Orpheus was so sad. He played sorrowful music and wandered in the forests.

Little friends, Orpheus couldn’t hold back from looking because he missed his wife too much. This story teaches us: sometimes we must control our feelings to achieve our goals.
