The Story#
A long, long time ago, in Greek mythology, there was a boy named Narcissus.
Narcissus was very handsome. Many girls liked him.
There was a nymph named Echo who also liked Narcissus.
But Narcissus was too proud. He didn’t like anyone.
Echo was heartbroken. She hid in a cave and stopped speaking. She could only repeat the last words others said.
One day, Narcissus came to the river to drink water.
He saw a beautiful reflection in the water—his own reflection.
“Wow, this person is so beautiful!” Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection.
He talked to the water every day, wanting to catch the person in the water.
“Hello!” “Hello!” Echo replied from the cave. “I love you!” “I love you!” Echo replied.
But Narcissus ignored Echo. He only loved his own reflection.
Finally, Narcissus became so sad that he turned into a flower by the river.
This flower is called the “daffodil.”
Little friends, Narcissus loved his own appearance too much and turned into a flower. This story teaches us not to love only ourselves—we should learn to love others.
What the Story Teaches Us#
Narcissus only loved himself and finally turned into a daffodil. This story teaches us not to be too proud, not to love only ourselves, and to learn to care for and love the people around us.
