The Story#
A long, long time ago, in Greek mythology, there was a god of the sea named Poseidon.
Poseidon was Zeus’s brother. He lived in a palace deep under the sea.
He had a trident. Just one wave, and the sea would churn with waves!
“Whoosh! Whoosh!”
Poseidon had many seahorses that pulled his chariot, speeding through the sea.
One day, Poseidon wanted to create a new animal.
He thought about it and combined a horse’s body with a fish tail.
Like this, the seahorse was born!
Seahorses look very interesting: a head like a horse, a curled tail like a monkey, and a hard shell on their body.
The most amazing thing is that seahorse daddies give birth to babies!
The seahorse mommy puts eggs in the seahorse daddy’s tummy, and the seahorse daddy hatches the baby seahorses.
Poseidon also created dolphins, octopuses, starfish, and other sea creatures.
He protected fishermen, keeping them safe at sea.
But Poseidon had a bad temper sometimes. When he got angry, storms would rise on the sea.
Little friends, when you see waves churning, that’s Poseidon waving his trident!
