The Story#

A long, long time ago, in Norse mythology, there was a group of brave warrior women called the Valkyries.
They were Odin’s maidens. They wore shiny armor and rode white horses, flying over battlefields.
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!”
The Valkyries flew through the sky. Their armor sparkled—this is the Northern Lights!
The Valkyries’ job was to find the bravest warriors on battlefields and bring them to Valhalla palace.
Valhalla was Odin’s palace, where there was endless meat to eat and endless mead to drink.
The brave warriors trained there, preparing for the final battle.
The Valkyries had many names: Brynhild, Göndul, Rota…
They were all very beautiful but also very powerful!
Once, the Valkyrie Brynhild fell in love with a mortal hero.
Odin was angry and trapped her in a mountain of fire.
Later, the hero Sigurd passed through the flames and saved Brynhild.
Little friends, the Valkyries were both brave and beautiful. They watched over brave people!
