The Story#
A long, long time ago, in Norse mythology, there were magical creatures called elves.
There were light elves and dark elves.
The light elves lived in beautiful places. They shone like stars.
They liked to sing and dance. They helped humans sometimes.
The dark elves lived underground. They were small and wore dark clothes.
They were good at making things.
They made Thor’s hammer, Odin’s ring, and Freya’s golden necklace.
They were called dwarves!
Dwarves were small but very skilled.
They could dig beautiful gems from the ground.
They made beautiful jewelry and weapons.
Once, Loki and a dwarf made a bet.
Who could make the best thing?
The dwarves made many wonderful things.
Loki lost the bet. His mouth was sewn shut!
Besides elves and dwarves, there were forest spirits.
They liked to play tricks on people.
Sometimes they helped people too.
If you got lost in the forest, the forest spirits might be playing with you!
