The Story
#

A long, long time ago, in Egyptian mythology, there was a god named Osiris.

He was the god of the dead and the ruler of the underworld.

Osiris was a good king who taught people to be kind and just.

He married his sister, the goddess Isis.

Isis was very wise and powerful. She loved Osiris very much.

But Osiris had an evil brother named Seth.

Seth was jealous of Osiris. He wanted to be king.

One day, Seth tricked Osiris.

He made a beautiful chest and said: “The first person who fits in this chest will win!”

Seth measured the chest and made sure it was just right for Osiris.

Osiris got into the chest and closed the lid.

Seth locked the chest and threw it into the Nile River!

“Whoosh!”

The chest floated away on the water.

Isis searched everywhere for her husband.

Finally, she found the chest in a tree in Lebanon.

But Seth found it too. Seth cut the tree and threw the chest into the sea!

Isis cried and cried. She couldn’t find Osiris.

Osiris’s son Horus fought Seth and became the new king.

Osiris became the god of the underworld. He protected people after death.

Little friends, Osiris’s story is about love and justice. Even when people die, they can continue to help others.
