Bastet was the goddess of home, cats, and protection.
Egyptians loved cats very much.
They thought cats were special.
Cats could catch rats and snakes.
Rats and snakes could carry diseases.
So cats protected people from getting sick.
Bastet helped cats too.
When cats were sick, people would pray to Bastet.
“Please help my cat!” they would say.
Bastet would send her healing power to the cat.
The cat would get better.
Bastet also protected homes.
She watched over families and kept them safe.
Egyptians built temples for Bastet.
They put statues of cats in the temples.
