The Story

A long, long time ago, in Native American mythology, there was a powerful bird called the Thunderbird.

The Thunderbird was huge! Its wings were as big as mountains.

When the Thunderbird flew, the wind blew hard.

“Whoosh! Whoosh!”

The birds under its wings turned into rain and lightning.

“Boom! Crack! Flash!”

The Thunderbird created thunder and lightning.

The Native Americans believed the Thunderbird controlled the weather.

They told stories about the Thunderbird:

“One day, a snake monster attacked the people. The Thunderbird saw it and flew down.”

“Whoosh! Bang!”

The Thunderbird fought the snake monster and won.

The people were safe again!

The Thunderbird also brought rain to the dry lands.

“Whoosh!”

Rain fell from the sky.

Plants grew, animals drank water, and people were happy.

The Native Americans respected the Thunderbird.

They built special totems with the Thunderbird on them.

The totems showed their respect and gratitude.

Little friends, the Thunderbird was a powerful protector. It taught people to respect nature and the power of the sky.
