The Story
#

A long, long time ago, in Mesopotamian mythology, there was a king named Gilgamesh.

He was very strong and very wise.

Gilgamesh built a big, beautiful city.

But he was also bossy and mean to his people.

“Work harder! Work harder!” he shouted.

The people were unhappy. They prayed to the gods for help.

The gods heard their prayers.

“Make Gilgamesh a better person!” the gods said.

They created a wild man named Enkidu to challenge Gilgamesh.

Enkidu was strong like Gilgamesh.

They fought each other.

“Bang! Whoosh! Scratch!”

They fought for three days and three nights.

Finally, they stopped and became friends.

Gilgamesh and Enkidu went on adventures together.

They fought monsters and solved difficult problems.

But Enkidu got sick and died.

Gilgamesh was heartbroken. He was afraid of death.

“I don’t want to die!” he said.

Gilgamesh searched for the secret of eternal life.

He traveled to the ends of the earth.

Finally, he met a wise old man.

The old man said: “You can’t live forever. But you can live a good life.”

Gilgamesh learned an important lesson.

He became a wise and kind king.

He helped his people and built a great city.

Little friends, Gilgamesh’s story teaches us: death is part of life, but we can live a meaningful life.
